Junior B Camogie

Our Junior B Camogie team won the County Championship on Saturday evening 1st September with a great performance against Bunclody in Oylegate. Tanya Healy opened the scoring with a well taken point in the first minute and Therese Murphy added with a tremendous point. Tanya Healy added her second point late in the second half and minutes later a delivery from Laura Heffernan allowed Shirley Roche to hit the back of the net. The score at half time was 1-03 to 0-02. We got off to the perfect start in the second half when Valerie Carty lobbed the Bunclody keeper from a long range. Kim Walker stretched our lead with a point from a 45 in the 8th minute of the second half. Bunclody however, never gave up scoring 1-01 without reply leaving only 3 points in the difference. The excellent Kim Walker pointed a free in the 30th minute to extend our lead to 4 points and pointed again from a 45 in injury time. The final score was 2-06 to 1-04. The girls were without the great Kim Walsh on the day but this just added to their incentive to win. Kim is an inspiration to the team and we wish her a speedy recovery!

ACHL League Final
Our Junior D team won the 1st piece of silverware for the club this season, when they were victorious in the Division 1C ACHL final against the Rapparees in Bellefield on Tuesday night last. We started brightly with 2 early points from Curly Lambert and Enda Whelan. Scores were very close throughout for the remainder of the 1st half, before a Donal Walsh goal saw us edge our noses in front by 1-7 to 0-9 at half time. Matters remained tight during the 2nd half, before 2 goals in a 3-minute period with about 10 minutes to go from Paul Lambert, put us in a commanding position. Further points from Lee Murphy and Andy Moore seemed to have put the game out of reach, but the Rapps finished strongly and we were holding on a little at the end before eventually winning by 2 points on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-15. Our full list of scorers was Curly Lambert 2-1, Lee Murphy 0-4, Donal Walsh 1-1 and Enda Whelan, Sean Murphy, David O’Connor, Roy Nolan and Andy Moore 0-1 each. Afterwards, captain Ciaran “Chicken” O’Leary accepted the cup on behalf of the team and sincerely thanked the selectors for all the efforts they had put in this year.
